"I never heard anything about that," singer and 'Battleship' co-star tells MTV News.

Fans have been teased with an exclusive “Battleship” clip and movie stills of singer Rihanna making a splash on the big screen. Her acting debut comes at a time when she’s still riding high on the music charts. With four songs in the top 30 on Billboard’s top 100, Rihanna is taking the entertainment world by storm.

When the musician-turned-actress sat down with MTV News, she revealed that she’s been considered for quite a few roles but wanted to make sure she had a better handle on her acting before diving into uncharted waters.

“I got a few scripts, actually, a lot of incredible roles,” she said. “Some of which I felt were a little too big for me, being that I never did a movie. So I wanted to really get my feet wet, try it, see what it was like and know how I wanted to move from there. I’m really glad ‘Battleship’ turned out to be the first one.”

With Whitney Houston’s death, there’s been talk of a Whitney biopic and a lot of buzz surrounding which starlet would be right for the project. Rihanna’s name has been thrown out there now that she’s establishing her acting chops, but the singer called the speculation “just rumors. I never heard anything about that.”

The rumors may have stemmed from Rihanna’s April interview with the U.K. Press Association in which she said she would give her “entire life” to play Whitney Houston. “That would be something that I would have to give my entire life to do, because I would really want to pull it off,” Rihanna said. “That’s a huge, huge role, and whoever does it has to do a good job.”

Her desire for the part stems from her great respect for the late singer. “My first song that I remember falling in love with was a Whitney Houston song: ‘I Will Always Love You,’ ” she continued. “It was really inspiring, and it made me develop a passion for music, so really, she’s partly responsible for me being here in this industry.”

Audiences can see Rihanna light it up on the big screen when “Battleship” hits theaters Friday, May 18.

Would YOU like to see Rihanna do more roles? What about a possible Whitney Houston biopic? Sound off on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #Rihanna!

'Twilight' actress tells MTV News she thinks people are being 'a little uptight' about the film's sex scenes.

For “Twilight” fans who thought the sex scene in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” were revealing, Kristen Stewart hasn’t showed you anything yet. When Stewart hits the big screen again in the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s American classic “On the Road,” she’ll be revealing a lot more than skimpy lingerie. The film contains quite a few sex scenes, including a threesome between Stewart and co-stars Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley. Talk about risqué!

“I wasn’t scared, honestly,” Stewart said in reference to the love scenes. “It’s kind of insane to watch now. I’m like, ‘Who is that?’ But I think — as every actress says when they do this is — it just felt so right. It was so within a different world and so within a different environment that I don’t even really feel — I mean, I am personally connected to it, of course — but it is something outside of myself.”

The film follows young drifters Dean Moriarty and his best friend Sal Paradise as the epitome of the Beat Generation. After Sal’s father dies, the duo embarks on a trip across America with Dean’s wife Marylou, a 16-year-old with an affinity for marijuana and sex.

The actress revealed that although her character is sexually promiscuous, the role didn’t bother her. “I have kind of no qualms about it either,” she said. “I think people are a little uptight.”

The starlet believes she felt comfortable in part due to director Walter Salles. “I felt so safe with Walter,” she revealed. “Nothing was ever, ever about taking your clothes off.”

Stewart’s film will debut at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival along with her boyfriend Robert Pattinson’s “Cosmopolis.” When asked if there was a little healthy competition between her and her “Twilight” co-star, the actress said it’s definitely there even though she hasn’t been able to see his film yet.

“It’s such weird timing. I think if it was us or them. I think we’d take the cake,” the actress joked. “I haven’t seen ‘Cosmopolis’ yet. I’m dying to see it. The first time I get to see it is actually in Cannes.”

So, whose film will be better?

“Mine,” Stewart said before breaking into a laugh.

Which film are YOU looking forward to seeing more? Kristen’s? Or, Rob’s? Tell us on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #KristenandRob!

Box-office expert looks at possible competition from 'Dark Knight Rises,' 'Amazing Spider-Man' and more.

Now that so many of us have seen “Marvel’s The Avengers” and helped make it this summer’s box-office blockbuster to beat, it’s time to look ahead at the rest of the season’s cinematic offerings to see which tentpole has the power to compete with Earth’s mightiest heroes.

The likeliest contender competing for some of the “Avengers”-size box-office haul is “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christopher Nolan’s dark, brooding, third and supposedly final Batman movie. Other buzz-worthy potential moneymakers to keep an eye on are Ridley Scott’s “Alien“-esque prequel “Prometheus,” Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man,” Rupert Sanders‘ “Snow White and the Huntsman” and Barry Sonnenfeld’s “Men in Black 3.”

To be fair, the “Avengers” haul is going to be very difficult to duplicate, particularly the record-breaking opening-weekend take of $207.1 million, which beat the $169.2 million set by previous champ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” MTV News consulted Boxoffice.com editor Phil Contrino for his wisdom on the subject and to see if any other summer fare has a chance at besting the records set by “Avengers.”

“I don’t think anything other than ‘Dark Knight Rises’ can pull it off,” Contrino said. “With ‘Spider-Man,’ every time a franchise is rebooted, it takes a while for the fans to dip their toes in the water and get a feel for it. ‘Spider-Man’ will be the same thing, maybe worse, because it’s so close to the [release] of the original. ‘X-Men: First Class’ and even ‘Batman Begins’ didn’t open to huge numbers, and a lot of people forget that. ‘Prometheus’ is [rated] R. For an R-rated movie to do $200 million would be something really monumental, almost impossible, I think.”

Contrino went on to say that “Dark Knight Rises” has a couple of factors that will prevent it from catching “Avengers,” but that it does have a chance of besting the #2 best opening-weekend gross set by “Deathly Hallows, Part 2.”

“It’s not in 3-D, so it doesn’t have the bonus financial boost, and it’s not nearly as family-friendly; it’s dark and broody. Disney did a good job of turning ‘Avengers’ into a family-friendly movie. I think that’s ultimately what pushed it as far as it’s gone,” Contrino said. “I don’t see anything else this summer beating it.”

What do YOU think will be the biggest movie of the summer? Tell us on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #SummerMovies!

'Dark Shadows' star tells Robert Pattinson that "there's room for two vampires on this block."

In a recent interview with this big screen vampire, Johnny Depp opened up about any potential vampy face-offs with fellow heartthrob and big-screen bloodsucker Robert Pattinson.

When asked if there’s any sort of blood feud with the “Twilight” star, Depp noted that it’s all cool between the two actors. “There’s room for two vampires on this block — as long as he remembers I am the Alpha Vampire,” he told UsMagazine.com at the London premiere of his campy vampire flick, “Dark Shadows,” which opens this weekend.

Of course Edward Cullen and Barnabas Collins aren’t really cut from the same vampire DNA. Where Edward is brooding and sullen, Barnabas is on the other end of the spectrum, with his oddball charm and old-world demeanor. And their transitions to the modern world are quite different. While Edward had been living in the world over the course of his vampire life, Barnabas had been in a coffin for 200 years before emerging in the 1970s.

When MTV News spoke to Depp about the film, he noted that exploring Barnabas’ evolution in the contemporary world was what drew him to the story.

“Playing a kind of reluctant vampire, in a sense, the reluctant vampire who has been locked in a box for 200 years and his misfortune to be let out in an age when things are probably at their most surreal in terms of 1972,” Depp said. “It’s a very odd period. Things are changing radically; the sort of peace and love thing was over with, and we were rapidly approaching disco, so musically and aesthetically, that was the fun of it, to place this hyper-elegant figure from the late 18th century into one of the weirdest times of all time.”

The film is the latest collaboration between Deep and director Tim Burton. It’s the big-screen adaptation of the 1960s soap opera of the same name.

Who do YOU think is the Alpha Vampire: Edward Cullen or Barnabas Collins? Share your pick on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #AlphaVampire!

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's 'Dark Shadows' debuts at a distant #2.

The Avengers isn’t the only club to count Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the rest of the crew as members. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes joined the $1 billion club over the weekend, shattering more box-office records and collecting enough cash to outgross “Alice in Wonderland” on the all-time worldwide box-office list. “Dark Shadows,” Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton’s first collaboration since “Alice,” settled for a distant #2 debut.

“The Avengers” reached the $1 billion mark as quickly as “Avatar” and the last “Harry Potter” movie, despite opening earlier overseas than in America. Marvel’s action-packed tentpole (which unites several of their heroes) already broke the all-time opening weekend record when it opened last weekend, and with it’s $103.2 million estimated domestic gross this weekend, “The Avengers” is now the record holder for the biggest second-weekend number too. Thanks to its $628.9 million 19-day international haul, “The Avengers” is now one of only 11 movies to climb past the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Marvel’s first movie under the Disney umbrella benefited from its comic book origins, repeat viewings, a positively reviewed story from director/co-writer Joss Whedon and the combined star power of folks like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. Truthfully, “Dark Shadows” never stood a chance. The eighth collaboration between Depp and Burton — a campy take on a decades-old low-budget vampire soap opera — made $28.8 million domestically during its first weekend in theaters. By comparison, Depp and Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” opened with $116.1 million two years ago.

“Think Like a Man,” which previously enjoyed two weekends atop the box office prior to the arrival of “The Avengers,” was #3 over the weekend with $6.3 million. Based on the self-help book from comedian Steve Harvey, “Think” has earned $81.9 million against a reported budget of just $12 million. “The Hunger Games” was #4 with $4.4 million, for a domestic total of $386.9 million. “The Lucky One” was #5 with $4.1 million for a $53.7 million total.

Fox Searchlight’s “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” did well with a modest expansion in theater counts, generating a healthy $2.7 million in 178 locations. “Girl in Progress” debuted with $1.4 million in 322 locations. Oscar winner “The Artist” went through one more expansion, in an apparent attempt to cash in on the Mother’s Day holiday, but failed to generate new buzz with a paltry $214 per screen average.

Next weekend, Sacha Baron Cohen will follow in Depp’s footsteps as the next star to go up against “The Avengers,” in his role as a fictitious world leader in “The Dictator.” The big-budget action flick “Battleship” will also arrive as well as a bit of counter-programming in the form of “What to Expect When You’re Expecting,” featuring an ensemble that includes Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks and Anna Kendrick.

Did YOU see a movie this weekend? If so, which one?? Sound off on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #WeekendMovies!

That’s the concept behind Rupert Sander’s new gothic action-adventure film, ‘Snow White and the Huntsmen‘. MTV’s Movie Night recently had the chance to sit down and chat with the stars of the film to find out why audiences still care about this story after all these years.

“It’s amazing how relevant the story is after all of these years,” says Charlize Theoron who plays the villainous Queen Ravena. “We all really want to make these movies that make people feel things.”

Twilight mega-star Kristen Stewart takes on the iconic role of Snow White, something that was no small feat. “We’re making a new fairy tale and it’s so worthy of the word. It really does take you somewhere that is otherworldly.” And when asked how the experience has been playing such a powerful role, she said she sees a human quality in the character: ”It’s really been awesome to play a young girl who is so human.”

Playing the Huntsmen is none other than Mr. Thor himself; Chris Hemsworth.

“Thematically there’s a sort of much larger story there. Snow White has this effect on people where she instils hope in them.”

Well, clearly the cast is hoping that Kristen and her take on Snow White instills hope in movie-goers.

‘Snow White and the Huntsmen‘ is in theatres everywhere June 1st, 2012.

"I think the unique combination with Sacha is - it's comedy, with a moral centre." says Ben Kingsley

Sacha Baren Cohen is no stranger to controversial (yet somehow beloved) comedic roles, thanks in large part to 2002′s Ali G, 2006′s Borat and 2009′s Bruno. MTV’s Movie Night recently had the chance to sit down with the supporting cast of Cohen’s latest project, ‘The Dictator‘ in which he plays General Aladeen who comes to America to “ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppresses“. That’s all well and fine, but we really wanted to find out from those who work the closest with him is how he manages to make his shock-comedy so darn lovable.

“Sacha himself is a very decent human being,” says Sir Ben Kingsley when asked how his comedy is so offensive, yet somehow never feels mean. “He’s one of the kindest men I’ve met, certainly one of the smartest. He would fearlessly defend what he believes to be evil, and at the same time because he’s so decent he will never get a laugh at a fellow actor’s expense, his care of the people on the set with him is very endearing, very kind, very caring.” His female co-star Anna Faris added a similar sentiment: ”He brings a weird sort of warmth and heart to his roles.”

When there are racial and political aspects present in a movie, esepecially a comedy you open yourself up for offending viewers, this is something that Sacha’s co-star Jason Mantzoukas says he manages to handle effortlessly.

“I think what he is very good at is finding those hot-button topics and pushing them, but with a very light touch. You know, he does it in a way that’s not cruel, in a way that he is lovingly offensive.”

Sir Ben Kingsley seems to put it best: “I think the unique combination with Sacha is – it’s comedy, with a moral centre.”

‘The Dictator‘ is in theatres everywhere Wednesday, May 16th.

"I hurt myself, but it was fun," she tells MTV News of going toe-to-toe with Charlize Theron in 'Snow White'.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” has moviegoers excited for a number of reasons, but few have gotten as much attention as Kristen Stewart’s transformation into a full-on action star.

During “MTV First: Snow White and the Huntsman,” Stewart and her onscreen nemesis, Charlize Theron, recalled what it was like having to battle each other and their wardrobes.

When MTV News‘ Josh Horowitz asked what factors led to Stewart joining the film, Theron offered up an explanation of her own.

“Kicking my ass?” Theron said.

Stewart couldn’t help but agree. “She was signed on for a while, so I was like ‘Charlize? I’ll definitely do it.’ ”

When Stewart first signed on to the film, her previous experience with action led her to believe she could do it all. “It’s funny too because I became such a baby on the movie. I was scared of so much that I didn’t think that I was going to be,” she said.

“I tasted little bits of action in other movies, and I thought that I was such a huge badass. I was like, ‘I love it. Honestly, I just love how it makes you feel. It feels real. You get to actually do it, and then at the end, you’re not like I faked it.’ I faked a lot. It was hard. I hurt myself, but it was fun.”

The epic showdown between Snow White and the Evil Queen turned out to be an exhausting shoot for both Stewart and Theron, who eventually teamed up to make filming a little easier on themselves.

“By day two, we kind of looked at each other and were like, ‘We don’t need to start this scene from the beginning to get into it. What’s the shot? Oh, we’re already on the ground? No, no, no, we’ll just be here on the ground,’ ” Theron said.

Though their fights took a lot out of them, the metal costumes ended up being even more harmful. “The costumes were actually more damaging than the fight sequences,” Theron said. “I was way more bruised from my costume than I was from her.”

Are YOU excited to see Snow White in theatres? Tell us why (or, why not) on Twitter at @MTVMovieNight with the hashtag #SnowWhite!
